Modulation of Human Neutrophils’ Oxidative Burst by Hydroxylated 2-Styrylchromones: The Relevance of the Catechol Group

2-Styrylchromones (2-SC) are a group of oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds, which characterized by the attachment styryl to C-2 position their chromone core. Over years, several biological activities have been attributed 2-SC, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, and antitumor [1,2]. Nonetheless, there no reports in literature about effect 2-SC on human neutrophils’ oxidative burst. Therefore, present study aims evaluate modulation burst panel hydroxylated previously obtained chemical synthesis, analyze structure–activity relationship [3]. For that purpose, freshly isolated neutrophils from blood were stimulated with phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate, chemiluminescence method was applied burst, using luminol probe [4]. Considering OH substituents B-ring tested compounds can be divided into following three groups: 1, catechol (C-3′ C-4′); 2, an at C-4′; 3, without any substitution B-ring. The 1 most active, IC50 values order µM. In conclusion, appears play important role 2-SC.
